All cars in the US must be installed with ‘kill switch’ by 2026
Under the guise of reducing alcohol-related accidents, the Infrastructure Law instructs car makers to install technology that can prevent the function of the vehicle
Cars in the United States will be required to be equipped with a ‘kill switch’ by 2026 that can remotely disable the vehicle either before or while driving by an algorithm or by third parties.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law signed by Joe Biden will force automobile manufacturers to install this “safety” device into all new vehicles under the guise of reducing drunk-driving accidents.
The text of the law defines this device as “advanced drunk and impaired driving prevention technology” yet the wider surveillance capabilities and the hindrance of liberties that can be implemented through such a device is alarming.
What does the new law exactly say?
First, let’s take a look at what the section of the law regarding this technology:
Advanced drunk and impaired driving prevention technology.–The term “advanced drunk and impaired driving prevention technology” means a system that can:
(A)(i) passively monitor the performance of a driver of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired; and (ii) prevent or limit motor vehicle operation if an impairment is detected; or
(B)(i) passively and accurately detect whether the blood alcohol concentration of a driver of a motor vehicle is above the legal limit for blood alcohol concentration of the jurisdiction in which the vehicle is located; and (ii) prevent or limit motor vehicle operation if a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit is detected.
What are the wider threats of this technology?
Former Rep. Bill Barr wrote a column that outlines the wider dangers of this technology through the vaguely-worded section of the law:
“First, use of the word “passively” suggests the system will always be on and constantly monitoring the vehicle,” he wrote for the Daily Caller.
“Secondly, the system must connect to the vehicle’s operational controls, so as to disable the vehicle either before driving or during, when impairment is detected.
“Thirdly, it will be an “open” system, or at least one with a backdoor, meaning authorized (or unauthorized) third-parties can remotely access the system’s data at any time.”
What are the implications?
As we have written so often in the past, all establishment agendas are initially sold through positive-sounding intentions to divert attention away from its ultimate purpose. In the case of the vehicle kill switch, reducing alcohol-related accidents is the way it is sold to gain public support while the far more nefarious capabilities of such a device can easily be added on once such technology is enforced.
COVID-19 was the Trojan horse for total digital surveillance and control over society, and electric vehicles are just another tentacle of this scheme.
Just as it will be with digital currency, the use of your electric vehicle (equipped with kill switch technology) could be prohibited remotely and algorithmically if you follow hold views deemed undesirable by the powers that be.
